Description
Chip carving spans centuries, with some pieces surviving since the 8th century. Examples of chip carving are found throughout the world in ornamental designs in structures, tools such as knife handles and oars, and in home goods such as cabinets, tables and chairs.
The properties of different types of wood allow intricate designs and patterns to be brought to life. There are many designs you can replicate, or come up with your own. Chip carving lends itself beautifully to geometric designs.
The ease of learning and the flexibility of design opportunities make chip carving a hobby which can be enjoyed by anyone. The tools are simple and once you learn the basics there is no limit to the designs you can make.
Class fee includes a chip carving knife, a teaching board and 2 – 3 ornament blanks.
